Job fair draws candidates interested in truck driver jobs

At a job fair in Council Bluffs, hundreds of people showed up with an interest in applying for truck driver jobs, among other opportunities.

About 450 people thronged through the door, resumes in hand, eager for the chance to apply.

Truck driver jobs are increasing nationwide, as loads and deliveries begin to pick up.

Most of the attendees were either long-term or newly unemployed.

According to, most of the 17 companies at Wednesday’s job fair, sponsored by the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil, had a variety of part-time, full-time or on-call openings.

Council Bluffs has an unemployment rate of 5.1 percent, far better than the national average. But competition still remains fierce for the jobs that are available.

A casino was also advertising dozens of jobs to fill.
